This podcast explores how AI is transforming the conditions through which we perceive, interpret and inhabit the world. Across five conversations with artists, curators, writers and researchers, the series examines the ways in which machine vision, algorithmic culture, and synthetic media play into the infrastructures that mediate attention, identity and political reality.
Through discussions on AI training data and image datasets, as well as virality, interfaces, games and generative “slop”, each episode asks how images have shifted away from the representational and have found themselves as active agents that shape behaviour, desire and collective memory. Bringing together contemporary art, media theory and critical technology studies, we ask what happens when images lose their authority, become ambient and computational, and increasingly determine how we know ourselves and each other.
